They were still enjoying their teacher's attention. Heather says it's like this everyday.
This Brookhaven High School valedictorian and Otterbein graduate always knew she would be a teacher. A product of the Columbus Public School system, Heather has a special fondness for the young children, taking great pleasure in how they change over the course of the school year. Heather says, "What they come in being able to read and what they leave being able to read is amazing growth."
Heather also knew that she would always go to college. Her mom helped her fill out the necessary paperwork and meet deadlines, while I KNOW I CAN provided Heather with the Last Dollar grant for four years of her college education. So Heather clearly understands how essential it is to have a support system when it comes to pursuing a post-secondary degree. But it doesn't stop there. She says that students need to build support once they are in college. That support, she believes, will reinforce why they are in college and will help them reach their goals.
Heather is taking her mother's advice and is enjoying the present. But as she occasionally glimpses ahead to the future, she is certain she will continue to work in education. She knows that education can change lives, saying "Everybody doesn't need the exact same thing; they just need the opportunity to make choices so they have power to control their own lives."
