I
didn't graduate from a Columbus Public High School. Am I eligible
to apply for the Last Dollar grant?
No. Only graduates of the Columbus City School District, beginning
June 1988, are eligible for the Last Dollar grant. Note:
Applicants must apply within three years of high school
graduation to be eligible and have a high school
cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher. An applicant may participate
in the program for a total of five years based on the
initial year in the program.
Do
I have to apply for the Last Dollar Grant every year?
Yes. Students must complete a renewal Last Dollar grant application
each year. The application must be submitted by July 1
each year to receive full consideration. Applications
received by the July 1 deadline will receive preferential
consideration. Applications submitted after this date
will be awarded on a funds available basis only.
What
criteria must I meet in order to be considered for the Last
Dollar Grant each year?
The criteria vary for high school seniors and upper-class
college students: Eligibility Requirements
I don't have a copy of my award letter; can I send in a copy of my bill instead?
No. We must have a copy of the school's award letter that
gives financial aid information for the full academic
year and not the bill that gives limited information about
one term.
My
school emails our grades to us; can I print out these grades
and send them to you?
Yes. We will accept a copy
of the email grades. Make sure your name and social security
number are on your grade report.
Can
I receive the Last Dollar grant if I drop below full-time status
for a term?
No. Students are not eligible to receive the Last Dollar grant
for any term in which the student is enrolled less than
full-time. Please check with your institution for their
definition of "full-time".
Can
I receive the Last Dollar grant if I plan to attend college
on a part-time basis for the year?
No. However, you may apply for the Last Dollar grant for the
next school year if you are planning on attending full-time.
What
do I need to do if I change schools?
Contact the financial aid office at your current school to
notify them to:
1. Send a Financial Aid Transcript (FAT) to your new
school.
2. Cancel future awards for you at that institution.
Call I KNOW I CAN at (614) 233-9510 to let us know you
plan to change institutions.
Send I KNOW I CAN a financial award letter from the postsecondary
institution the student will attend. This may be obtained
from the institution's financial aid office.
If
I transfer schools, will my Last Dollar grant automatically
transfer to my new school?
No. Receipt of a grant at one institution does not guarantee
receipt of a grant(s) at another institution. When a student
changes institutions their budget usually changes; therefore,
the award package usually changes too.
To be considered for a Last Dollar grant at the new school,
the student must demonstrate that they have applied for
all other sources of financial aid by the new school's
priority deadline and that they still have need as determined
by federal/institutional guidelines. Students must have
filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
by the new school's priority deadline and the new school
must be listed on the SAR by the school's priority deadline.
What
is the maximum grant I can receive for one year? What is the
minimum I can receive?
The maximum grant a student can receive for one academic year
is $1200. The minimum is $100.
Can
I use my Last Dollar grant to pay for books and supplies?
Yes.
Does
the Last Dollar grant check come to the school or to me?
All Last Dollar grant checks are sent directly to the postsecondary
institution.
Awards between $100 and $200 will be disbursed in one
check. All other awards will be disbursed as follows:
2 checks for semester/clock hour schools and 3 checks
for trimester/quarter schools.
Where
can I volunteer to serve my 4 service hours, which are required
for receiving the Last Dollar grant?
What
materials do I need to send to I KNOW I CAN to be considered
for the Last Dollar grant?
A copy of all pages of the
Pell Grant Student Aid Report (yellow sheets) that the
student receives after filing the FAFSA;
A financial aid award letter from the postsecondary institution
the student will attend. This may be obtained from the
institution's financial aid office;
A copy of the transcript or your latest grade card showing
your grade point average and credits earned. This may
be obtained from the institutions registrar.
These documents must be submitted by August 1. (The Last
Dollar grant application is due July 1, for full consideration.)
Do
I have to wait until I have all of the required materials to
send in to I KNOW I CAN at one time?
No. The required documents may be submitted separately.
Can
I receive the Last Dollar grant for summer school?
The Last Dollar grant is awarded
for the standard academic year. However, there are a few
exceptions. Contact I KNOW I CAN at (614) 233-9510 to
see if you meet the criteria to qualify for summer funding.
How
do I let I KNOW I CAN know that I am taking full-time classes
at two schools through a consortium agreement?
Students must meet the following criteria to receive a Last
Dollar grant while taking classes through a consortium
agreement:
Have a signed consortium agreement at their host
school (the school they will receive their degree
from)
Take a total of twelve credit hours between the
schools
The host school must be considering them for funding
on a full-time basis.
Turn in an award letter from their host school
