Applying for Success
- Be aware of application deadlines for each school and scholarship you are applying for. (Most come before Winter Break)
- Make sure you have filled in ALL of the required fields and collected ALL of the required paperwork (e.g. transcripts, letters of recommendation, SAR, financial award letters, etc.).
- If you are unsure of how to complete any portion of the application, contact your I Know I Can College Advisor or school counselor for help (they're experts!).
- Give yourself plenty of time to think about and complete the essay portions of the applications.
- Make an outline that includes an introduction paragraph with topic sentence, three body paragraphs and a conclusion
- Write out your first draft. Be aware of word or length limitations
- Have someone you trust (i.e. teacher, counselor, IKIC College Advisor, parent, etc.) edit the first draft
- Make the suggested changes and then have a 2nd editor take a look
- Type the final essay at home, school or in the library and print a few copies. Include one with your college application
- Make copies of every document you send with your applications and keep them in your college binder
