| Motivating though Early
Awareness Programs |
| Summer Scholars - This program
is an opportunity for academically talented middle and
high school students to attend summer enrichment programs
on a number of college campuses across the nation. We
assist students in applying for these programs and help
fund their attendance. This early introduction to studying
on a college campus is critical for students to become
more comfortable and to understand that higher education
opportunities exist for all students. |
| I KNOW I CAN's Motivational Children's
Book - All Columbus Public School second-graders
receive their own copy of I KNOW I CAN children's book
designed to introduce the idea of going to college.
The message of the book is universal; however, it is
geared toward those children who do not have the background,
knowledge or exposure to realize that post-secondary
education can be both affordable and
attainable. Find out more about this book and
how you can order. |
| Alumni Visitation Days -
We understand that for many
students, "seeing
is
believing." Therefore we use one our best resources, college students, to
help current high school juniors and seniors realize that college can be in each
of their futures. In December, we invite current college students to return to
their high school alma maters to discuss their college experiences and answer
any questions the high school students may have. |

Advising seniors, as well
as a portion of freshman, sophomores and juniors
through college admissions and financial aid advising via: |
| Volunteer Senior Advisors -
When making big decisions, it's only natural for students
to seek the advise of those adults who are closest to
them. In Columbus City high schools there is a student-to-guidance
counselor ration of 400 to 1. In order to complement
the work of the counselors, we place at least one of
our
Senior Advisors in each of the high schools. |
| Volunteer Early Awareness Advisors -
So that students arrive at their senior year prepared
to apply for college, our Early Awareness Advisors promote
higher education to students by implementing numerous
college-awareness activities throughout the school year.
These activities include: planning a local college visit,
administering a career skills inventory, enrolling students
in college-prep curriculums and ensuring that they are
taking all possible preliminary
standardized tests. |
| Financial Aid Workshops -
Each February, we hold workshops to help Columbus city
students and their parents complete the forms necessary
to receive financial aid for college. We provide this
vital service by recruiting more than 150 volunteers
to work one-on-one with students and parents. |

| Funding more than 1,000
Columbus Public School graduates with Last Dollar Grants
for college and leveraging additional
financial assistance. |
| Last Dollar Grant Program -
This is the most critical service we provide to Columbus
city students. We promise financial aid assistance for
college to every qualified graduate of the Columbus City
School District. Once the program's volunteers help students
garner funds from federal, state and institutional sources,
as well as from their own family income and student loans,
we provide students with up to $1,200 annually to cover
any gap that exists between their resources and the cost
of their college educations. Grants are available for
up to five years, and students must re-apply each year
and maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average in order
to qualify. |

| Supporting all Columbus
Public School graduates who attend central Ohio higher
education institutions through |
| College Retention Program -
To ensure students make a successful transition to college
and complete their degrees, we offer office hours for
our central Ohio college students on their respective
campus. Our Retention Specialists link students with
tutoring services, study skills assistance and provide
financial
aid and academic advising. |
